Four day project for up to 60 pupils, projects are adapted to suit particular age groups from KS2 – KS5.

Target Groups

Pro-Excel - SurvivorIntroduction

The project was designed as a Summer School with a focus on raising self -esteem, promoting social cohesion and developing team work, raising problem solving ability and developing skills and skills awareness across a range of fields.

'Survivor' works with up to 60 pupils per project from a broad social cross section. We aim to blend levels of abilities and types of character in the selection process and this is done by a student completing pupil profile form (a questionnaire that looks at interests, ambitions, level of confidence and areas of expertise). On day one students are split in to 'tribes’ that are depicted by a coloured T shirt - red, green, yellow or blue. Once the tribes are allocated the students go to their individual team rooms, and over the course of the project will complete challenges in the following areas:

DAY 1

Show Your Colours - Each tribe must design a banner which best describes their team's motivation, name and ethics, similarly they must put together and perform a chant to raise their motivation.

Build A Community - The tribes must now take control of their laws and rules, they must elect a leader allocate roles to tribe members and list the laws by which they will live throughout the project.

DAY 2

Aiming Higher - This is an interactive Quiz where each tribe is given resource materials on Aim Higher and General Knowledge ( this is transferable in non-AimHigher projects), they must develop questions and try to outwit other tribes. For each correct answer a tribe member who excels in Physical Activities will' run the gauntlet' to collect an item of craft for a later challenge!

Construct a Shelter - From the previous challenge each tribe has a range of craft materials from straws to wood to boxes, scissors, etc. from these materials they must plan and construct a camp that will keep them safe, warm and healthy. This isn't as straight forward as perhaps it may sound!

Pro-Excel - SurvivorDAY 3

Survivor SOS - The day begins with a demonstration and workshop for the whole group in the communal area from a qualified medical professional. Following an awareness workshop on basic first aid, including Doctor's ABC with a rescus dummy the groups return to their precious tribe rooms to find they have been ransacked by wild animals. When they finally realise that tidying the mess is their responsibility they begin to find envelopes hidden round the room, once opened these partner people randomly by letter and offer a problem solving challenge with a medical thought too!

Survivor Challenge - An Army PTI led physical assault course. Whilst physically strong members want to take the lead, this is a team challenge as all members must complete the course - The group that puts the team as a whole first will win every time!

DAY 4

Marooned on Treasure Island - Each tribe must undertake a Treasure Hunt around the grounds of Survivor Island. The groups will use orienteering skills as well as having to overcome command tasks at each of the checkpoints in order to release the clue for the next challenge. Again team work and problem solving skills will have to be at their finest!

How Did We get Here? - In all the fuss the students never did get to find out how they arrived on Survivor island. In this Expressive Arts Challenge - each Tribe must devise a play that explains how they arrived, what happened whilst they were there and how they escaped the island. Points are awarded for creativity, diversity of performance whole team inclusion and the overall performance.

The project is delivered interactively by an on-screen presenter on a giant screen. The main room is equipped with a Pa System, careen and projector and each team is given its own ‘tribe room’. This helps cement the Survivor theme for the pupils involved.
