Pro- Excel offers community based learning projects. We aim to provide a unique environment in order to increase the learning potential and self-esteem of young people. We use the glamour and profile of professional sport to attract, enthuse and harness the academic and social capabilities of young people, regardless of ability, gender, social, ethnic or religious background. Our goal is to provide a diverse range of community projects that will provide sustainable development pathways into further and higher education by placing core areas of the National Curriculum in a dynamic scenario with strong physical outputs and achievements.
Our Goal
Our goal is to create a real-life working environment that takes elements of curriculum based education and embeds them into a real life situation where the pupils perceive themselves as young adults and have the opportunity to excel.
We nurture a culture of teamwork amongst the participants interlinking the importance of education with achieving career and social goals. The project’s components harness a blend of divergent skills moulding them into physical outputs.
Each workshop has a real life goal. The onus to succeed is placed upon the participants and failure is a possibility for those who do not commit 100 %. Motivation comes essentially from the group as a whole, our objective being to build teamwork, motivation and breakdown any social barriers, beginning with inter-school rivalries. We aim to replace any negative perceptions of education and its worth with a recognisable culture of success.
The projects vary in length, outcome and delivery period. This is so we can offer a range of activities and involve a sustainable pathway to development. Some are holiday based; others after school and most can also be operated in curriculum time. We recognise a pupil’s education does not start and finish within the parameters of the school day and that learning is an ongoing process in a persons professional, academic and social development.
We host activities for a variety of age groups and skill levels. We cater for participants with appropriately targeted projects from key stage 2 through to key stage 4 (KS5 for some projects) and we tailor each to the specific needs of each particular educational partner. Our targets are to; increase wider participation, to identify and develop Gifted and Talented Pupils; to help enhance pathways in to Further and Higher Education for pupils aged 14+, and to support specific courses and subjects within schools. Some projects can also assist in identification of talented pupils.
